SøEdited Team: SøLifestyle Editor: Sara Darling SøCreative Director: Chris Saint Sims SøFashion Director: Savannah Barthorpe If you’ve never been to a catwalk show, the latest immersive experience at London’s Lightroom is a pretty decent place to start. 'VOGUE: Inventing the Runway' is an immersive showcase that takes you on a journey through the evolution of fashion shows, from intimate salons to today's epic, celebrity-filled spectacles. From the first show at New YorK fashion week in 1943, to the celeb-studded FROW at The Row’s show in Paris this year, where mobile phones were banned, every designer ensures a certain kind of spectacle. However, Vogue has opened up its archives to allow everyone the thrill of watching the runway unfold right in front of them via thematic chapters and original animation that spans decades of archive catwalk material - from Disruptors todesigners breaking boundaries and some of the most iconic catwalk moments of all times. Deep in London’s Coal Drops Yard, is The Lightroom, and the large basement utilises state of the art technology to create a four-storey walls and 360-degree canvas. As you descend to the showspace, you’ll be rewarded by kaleidoscopic images that fill the four walls, and you can take a seat to soak up the buzzy atmosphere. It is not necessary to book a time slot, as the film is on a loop and you can stay as long as you like to enjoy the 50 minute spectacle in all its glory. Using content from Vogue’s archives, global fashion weeks, behind the scenes footage, and designer interviews, the experience is narrated by Cate Blanchett, who bridges the gap of the industry’s leading voices from the past, present, and future as the viewer is immersed into the ultimate statement of a designer’s vision and expression of their identity. Eye-opening, not only for changing fashion trends, but culture at large, the show touches on the iconic shows that shifted the cultural landscape and how arts, entertainment, technology and politics are intertwined. From the intimate couture salons of the early 20th century to the all-singing, all-dancing global productions of the present, the shows are as important as the clothes. It must have been a difficult edit, but you will see well known Houses including Gucci, Balenciaga, Versace, Burberry, Chanel, Christian Dior, Givenchy and Prada. Along with cult British designers Martine Rose, Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Anderson, Victoria Beckham, and Vivienne Westwood. You may be surprised at how engaging and dramatic a 6 and a half minute runway show could be; and beyond the exclusivity, a whole new world of wonder awaits.
