In a fashion world moving at a relentless pace, where trends are born, amplified and forgotten within a matter of weeks, Gotal is choosing another path.

The London and Paris-based designer is not interested in chasing the algorithm. Her collections are not created for a fleeting moment online, nor designed around the demands of constant consumption. Instead, they are shaped by memory, observation and a fascination with the details that make clothing meaningful: the cut of a sleeve, the weight of a fabric, the story behind a garment.

Her work occupies a space between past and future where contemporary silhouettes are informed by traditional craftsmanship and modern ideas grounded in a respect for how clothes are made.

“I want people to feel something when they wear my pieces,” she says. “A garment should become part of someone’s story.”

A Fashion Destiny Discovered Later in Life

Gotal’s journey into fashion was not a conventional one.
Before becoming a designer, she worked in IT. A world defined by systems, logic and technology rather than textiles and ateliers. Yet her relationship with fashion began long before she entered the industry.

Growing up, she developed an instinctive understanding of clothing. She could recognise designers, identify quality and notice the construction details that often go unseen.

That eye for fashion became impossible to ignore after she moved to London.

“I used to go shopping with my flatmate every weekend,” she recalls. “She would pick up an item and I could usually tell where it came from and roughly how much it cost. One day she said, ‘You should work in fashion.’”

It was a simple comment, but it planted the seed of a new future.

Soon afterwards, Gotal applied to Central Saint Martins, an institution synonymous with some of Britain’s most influential creative voices, and was accepted.

The decision represented more than a career change. It was a return to something that had always been there.

Her appreciation for craftsmanship was also shaped at home. Her mother’s ability in sewing and pattern cutting gave her an early understanding that fashion is both artistic expression and technical discipline.

“Fashion is not only about making something beautiful,” she explains. “It is about understanding the structure behind it.”

The Art of Emotion Through Clothing

For Gotal, the most memorable designers are not simply those who create beautiful garments, but those who communicate ideas.

One of her greatest influences is Alexander McQueen, whose ability to combine emotion, storytelling and precision continues to inspire her.

What draws her to McQueen is not only the spectacle, but the intelligence behind the work and the way clothing can become a vehicle for deeper conversations.

“I admire designers who can create something emotional while keeping it clear and powerful,”

That philosophy is reflected in Gotal’s own collections: considered rather than excessive, expressive rather than obvious.

Building Slowly in an Instant World

Since launching her label in 2016, Gotal has experienced the reality of building an independent fashion brand from the ground up.

The image of overnight success, she believes, rarely reflects the truth.

“Every season is another lesson,” she says. “Every collection teaches you something.”

For independent designers, creativity is only one part of the equation. There are financial pressures, production challenges and the constant work of introducing a new voice to an already crowded industry.

Yet Gotal sees the process as an evolution rather than a race.
Her life between London and Paris has informed that journey. London, in particular, remains a source of inspiration, a city where different cultures, ideas and creative movements collide.

“There is an energy here,” she says. “People come with dreams and ideas. It encourages experimentation.”

But she is also thoughtful about how fashion culture itself is changing.
In an age of social media aesthetics, she believes individuality is sometimes being replaced by belonging.

“People used to be passionate about fashion itself,” she says. “Now sometimes it feels more about being part of a certain identity or community.”

Finding Beauty Beyond the Runway

Unlike designers who look solely to trend reports and fashion calendars, Gotal finds inspiration in the wider world.

Architecture, travel, museums, markets and social change all influence her creative process.

A visit to Bangkok’s floating markets sparked ideas around colour, texture and movement, demonstrating her belief that inspiration exists everywhere.

“It can come from a building, an object or a feeling,”

Her fascination with vintage clothing remains central to her practice. She spends time exploring flea markets and studying garments from previous decades, particularly the 1960s.

“The quality was extraordinary,” she says. “The fabrics, the construction, the attention to detail, there is so much to learn.”

For Gotal, looking backwards is not nostalgia. It is a way of understanding the future.

Fashion After the Algorithm

One of Gotal’s recent collections explored one of the defining questions of contemporary life: the relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity.

The collection was born from her concerns about speed, technology and emotional connection.

“Everything is becoming faster,” she says. “Sometimes it feels like we are losing depth.”

The result was a collection defined by sharper forms, geometric silhouettes and a sense of tension between the human and the digital.

Although she uses AI tools where they can support the technical side of her work, she remains committed to the instinctive process of design.

“I still sketch everything by hand. That is where the ideas begin.”

For Gotal, technology can enhance creativity, but it cannot replace intuition.

Clothing as a Conversation

For Gotal, fashion has always been about more than appearance.
Her collections explore contemporary emotions: including loneliness, digital isolation and the changing ways people connect.

The themes are personal. Independent design can be a solitary pursuit, requiring hours of reflection and experimentation.

“Design can be surprisingly lonely,” she says. “You spend so much time sketching, thinking and creating.”
That solitude becomes part of the work itself.

Her garments become reflections of modern life and a dialogue between the individual and the world around them.

A Future Built on Authenticity

Gotal’s ambitions are not simply about becoming widely known. They are about reaching the right audience.

Recognition from retailers that champion independent designers remains an important milestone, particularly platforms such as Farfetch, which have helped bring distinctive creative voices to a global audience.

She also sees potential in collaborations with brands such as Ray-Ban, whose combination of heritage and innovation reflects values close to her own.
But for Gotal, the greatest measure of success remains human connection.

“In today’s world, people want authenticity,” she says. “They want to connect with real people.”

The Legacy She Wants to Leave

When asked how she hopes her label will be remembered, her answer is immediate.
Quality.

Not luxury as a symbol of status, but quality as a commitment: to materials, craftsmanship and thoughtful design.

Her preference for fabrics such as linen and silk reflects this philosophy. She chooses textiles that age beautifully, developing character rather than losing relevance.

The goal is simple: create clothing worth keeping.

In an industry constantly searching for what comes next, she is making a case for something increasingly rare: patience, authenticity and the belief that the most powerful designs are the ones that endure.

There are few designers working today whose runway extends beyond the language of fashion into something more profound. With Comunión, Willy Chavarria once again demonstrated that clothing can function as both cultural testimony and political expression, delivering a collection that was as emotionally resonant as it was visually compelling.

Silhouette remains one of Chavarria's greatest strengths. Oversized tailoring, sculptural shoulders and elongated proportions have become signatures of the house, yet this season they evolved with greater softness and fluidity. Precision-cut suiting alternated between sharp tailoring and relaxed ease, frequently styled with shorts that subtly referenced school uniforms while challenging traditional notions of masculine dress. Structured shirting and architectural knitwear reinforced the commanding posture that has become synonymous with the brand, communicating dignity and quiet authority rather than aggression.

For Sonal, fashion began long before launching a label. Growing up within the Rabari community, she watched generations of women transform fabric into stories through intricate embroidery and handcraft. Those early experiences shaped her understanding that true luxury isn't measured by price, but by patience, precision and respect for craftsmanship.

"My earliest lessons in luxury came from watching women create with their hands, their patience and their stories."

That philosophy runs through every FLAPPER6 collection. Clean silhouettes, exceptional fabrics and carefully considered details create pieces that feel quietly confident rather than attention-seeking. Every stitch has purpose, every proportion is intentional.

Rather than designing for trends, Sonal designs for women who already know who they are—or are discovering it. The FLAPPER6 woman doesn't dress to impress; she dresses as an expression of herself.

"Fashion cannot create confidence, but it can reveal it."

It's this emotional connection that defines the brand. Customers often tell Sonal they feel seen in her designs, not simply dressed. For her, that response matters more than compliments.

Building FLAPPER6 hasn't been without challenges. Like many founders, she's had to resist the temptation to chase trends in favour of protecting the brand's identity.

"I am not interested in creating what is already selling. I am interested in creating what feels necessary."

Fashion house Aje unveiled Resort 27, Siren, at Australian Fashion Week, a collection that felt both deeply connected to Australia and undeniably global in its execution. The showcase marked a defining new chapter for the founders, Adrian Norris and Edwina Forset, following their recent momentum in Paris. Their vision and mutual love of the arts creates a sense of raw beauty, tough femininity and effortless cool using untamed volume with structure and signature statement pieces alongside seamless essentials, with a key study into texture, movement and striking monochrome dressing.

The show opened with a bold leather look halter top, where modern minimalism meets statement form, paired with a sheer, embellished wrap skirt, traced with artisanal beading, the light catching and intricately detailed. This installed the tone of the runway. The disparity between rigid leather and delicate embellishment established the collection’s central tension: strength softened by romance.

This look was highly polarised by the stage, at The Lands by Capella, as the sun began to set, the immersive runway transformed the venue into an extension of the Aje world. Soft rose-toned carpeting and seating surrounded the space, creating an atmosphere that mirrored the collection itself: romantic, earthy and quietly dramatic. The show traced a journey across the Australian landscape, from coastline to outback, where softness met strength and untamed beauty was reimagined through contemporary craftsmanship.

Leather became a defining language within the collection. A micro vegan leather black bandeau paired with sleek low-rise tailored leather trousers and the oversized Tate Fringe Scarf captured the essence of tough femininity, clean lines muted through movement and texture as well as grounding the softer draped looks with a sharper edge. This use of leather echoed the sharp sensuality of Saint Laurent through its monochrome tailoring and strong silhouettes. Elsewhere, suede sets in rich, directional hues reinforce the collection’s balance of structure and ease, particularly within the oversized Varleta silhouette that closed the show with understated drama.

Fine sheer organza appeared in sculptural volumes and cinched forms, contouring the body while creating tension between opacity and transparency. A soft blush silhouette brought a moment of romantic fluidity to the collection, gracing it with its soft blush pink that mesmerised with every stride. The look felt like a clear celebration of femininity, where sculptural elegance met with contrasts of leather straps, a plunging gown defined by drape, folds and voluminous tiered movement. The tone remained distinctly Australian, drawing natural comparison to the celestial grace of Zimmermann.

One of the standout elements throughout the collection was the emphasis on tactile surfaces and artisanal detailing. Embellished separates traced with complex beading caught the light as models moved through the space, while sequins and tassel fringing introduced rhythm and fluidity. The Radieux pieces, radiant embellishment meets fresh proportion, particularly delivered event-ready glamour with high-impact embellishment and fringed hems that shimmered in motion.

What made Siren feel especially compelling was the way each garment appeared sculpted directly onto the body. Draped folds, plunging gowns, exaggerated proportions and tailored cuts all worked together to create silhouettes that felt fluid yet intentional, proving Aje’s ability to elevate classic forms into something modern and distinctly recognisable. While many contemporary luxury brands are leaning into minimal restraint, Aje continues to embrace drama through texture and volume, giving Siren a distinctly emotional quality.

The front row reflected the brand’s increasing global presence, with Maia Mitchell, Gabriella Brooks, Gemma Ward, Montana Cox and Inka Williams in attendance, while international model Emma Balfour closed the runway. Yet despite its international appeal, the collection remained grounded in Australia, in its landscapes, textures and natural light.

With Resort 27 Siren, Aje reaffirmed its place as one of Australia’s defining fashion houses. Through craftsmanship, contrast and a deep connection to place, Adrian Norris and Edwina Forest delivered a collection that felt both personal and progressive, an ode to Australia that was elemental, elegant and entirely modern. Siren did not simply showcase clothes, it presented a distinctly Australian vision of modern luxury.

Celebrating the Next Generation of Fashion Talent

The Jimmy Choo Academy (JCA) Graduate Showcase 2026, held at the prestigious Haberdashers' Hall in London on 18 June 2026, was a celebration of emerging fashion talent, craftsmanship, and innovation. Set within one of London's most historic venues, the showcase provided an elegant backdrop that contrasted beautifully with the contemporary collections presented by twelve graduating designers. Together, the graduates represented a diverse range of creative voices, each bringing a unique perspective shaped by personal experiences, cultural heritage, technical experimentation, sustainability, and an understanding of the evolving luxury fashion landscape. The event demonstrated JCA's commitment to combining traditional craftsmanship with entrepreneurial thinking, reflecting the academy's vision established by Professor Jimmy Choo OBE.

From the moment guests entered Haberdashers' Hall, there was a sense of anticipation. The venue's grand architecture, intricate wood panelling, and historic interiors created a luxurious atmosphere that complemented the sophistication of the collections on display. Fashion industry professionals, buyers, journalists, influencers, and supporters of emerging talent gathered to celebrate the next generation of designers, reinforcing the event's importance within London's fashion calendar. The historic setting created a striking contrast between heritage and innovation, allowing the graduates' contemporary collections to stand out while remaining connected to the values of craftsmanship, refinement, and creativity.

The runway presented an exciting mix of ready-to-wear, tailoring, accessories, and experimental fashion. Each designer showcased a distinctive creative identity, drawing inspiration from personal narratives, cultural heritage, sustainability, and modern social issues. While every collection differed in aesthetic direction, they shared a common emphasis on high-quality construction, meticulous detailing, and technical excellence. This reflected JCA's educational philosophy, where craftsmanship remains central to the design process alongside commercial awareness, brand development, and the ability to create fashion with a clear purpose.

Among the standout collections was ATELIER.PETROVA by Valeria Peeva, titled Street Performance, which explored the relationship between theatricality, movement, and everyday dressing. Inspired by Venetian carnival traditions and vibrant Italian street parades, the collection transformed centuries-old ideas of masquerade and public celebration into a contemporary wardrobe. Sculptural silhouettes created a sense of drama in motion, with garments designed to shift and transform with the body. Luxurious fabrics including wool, silk, satin, and cotton were combined with meticulous construction techniques, emphasising texture, volume, and fluidity. The striking palette of red, blue, and cream enhanced the collection's expressive character, while one particular look drew inspiration from a 500-year-old Italian sport that continues to be played today with largely unchanged rules, further connecting the work to Italy's rich cultural heritage. Peeva's collection demonstrated how fashion can exist as both performance and personal expression, celebrating individuality, storytelling, and the art of dressing.

Equally impressive was G BY GEORGIA by Georgia Fisher, presenting the collection Bajo el Sol (Under the Sun), a refined exploration of Mediterranean influence, architectural form, and contemporary femininity.

Inspired by MojácarPueblo in Almería, Andalusian culture, architecture, and the designer's own childhood connection to the region, the collection captured the warmth, movement, and understated elegance of Mediterranean life. Designed for women seeking timeless minimalism paired with artistic depth, Fisher combined a sophisticated palette of black, cream, and navy with luxurious materials including satin stretch crepe, scuba crepe, and wool mohair barathea. Fabric manipulation and considered draping techniques referenced the pioneering approaches of designers Madeleine Vionnet and Madame Grès, while modern silhouettes created a balance between fluidity and structure.

The result was a collection that felt both emotionally personal and commercially relevant, offering a contemporary interpretation of occasionwear rooted in craftsmanship, elegance, and thoughtful design.

LeCoupe-Barnaby Coupe

Sustainability, heritage, and material storytelling were central to LE COUPE by Barnaby Coupe, whose collection Run of the Mill explored contrasts between post-war American advertising culture and the restrained familiarity of British identity. Drawing inspiration from Vietnam War draft dodgers, English flour mills, and nostalgic industrial references, Coupe combined workwear influences with tailoring to create a collection rich in historical narrative. Manipulated fabrics, overdyed Harris tweeds and wools, boiled hopsacks, tea-dyed cottons and linens, and recycled vintage curtains were transformed into garments that reflected both practicality and craftsmanship.

Printed graphics throughout the collection were directly inspired by original flour sack designs sourced from Great Alne Mill dating back to the 1950s, reinforcing the connection to British manufacturing heritage. The colour palette of beige, red, browns, and burgundy strengthened the collection's nostalgic atmosphere, while careful construction elevated utilitarian references into contemporary fashion. Coupe demonstrated how recycled and archival materials can be reimagined to create garments that are not only sustainable but deeply connected to place, history, and cultural memory.

One of the strongest aspects of the showcase was its balance between creativity and wearability. Rather than focusing solely on conceptual fashion, many graduates demonstrated a clear understanding of the contemporary luxury market, producing garments that were visually striking while remaining commercially viable. Across the collections, innovative fabric manipulation, sculptural silhouettes, precision tailoring, and thoughtful accessory design highlighted the technical skills developed throughout their studies. The graduates showed that modern fashion requires not only creative vision but also an understanding of the customer, the market, and the importance of developing a recognisable design identity.

The showcase also reinforced the growing importance of sustainability within fashion education. Several collections incorporated recycled textiles, deadstock materials, and responsible production techniques without compromising aesthetics or luxury appeal. These approaches reflected the industry's ongoing movement towards more conscious design practices and demonstrated that emerging designers are increasingly prepared to address the environmental and ethical challenges facing contemporary fashion.
