Fashion Director: Joseph Toronka "Mara fashion editorial shot for The Study abroad programme at The London College of Fashion was shot in Dhaka Bangladesh. It came with many challenges, during the COVID lock down, but the result was beautiful, enchanting and the right balance of cross-cultural references resulting in a globally appealing shoot" Creative Development and Styling: Mara Rah Our notion of movement has changed drastically over the last year due to the Covid pandemic. In many ways, our freedom to move has changed, it has become constricted - which sometimes makes us feel lost. During my time in my home country - Bangladesh - I would drink my coffee in front of the paintings of Shahbuddin Ahmed. The brush strokes in his work would always translate a sense of dynamism across Bangladeshi natural landscape that was missing during life in lockdown. So this shoot was inspired by ‘Hybrid Abstraction’, I wanted to create an artificial backdrop using Ahmed’s paintings that would artificially turn the inside into the outside. My fashion styling intentions were to create a symbiotic relationship between Western and traditional Bangladeshi style and show how the rich culture and heritage could translate in a contemporary fashion. Arts Editor: Christopher George The Pop Art of Patrick Nagel needs little introduction. His minimalist style defined an era with cool, seductive women that became the most iconic of any single generation. His elegant graphic work and his portrayal of the contemporary woman made figurative design before him look instantly old. Today his unique sensibility and style continue to resonate with generations of young designers, illustrators and artists who have found inspiration from his trend-setting style. Through cultural cross-pollination, his work absorbed the moment – from the fashion photography of Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton to influencing the look of music videos by David Bowie, Robert Palmer and George Michael, to creating the album cover art of Duran Duran. Bringing us in to the moment, much as the aesthetics of Nagel's design has been a constant relevance of modernity, AKILA announce their collaboration with the Nagel Estate to create a set of sunglasses inspired by the late illustrator’s artwork. Dubbed New Wave, the one-piece wraparound frame is finished with polarised lenses to add functionality to an avant-garde design. Han Kjøbenhavn offers Danish design within eyewear, menswear and womenswear, all inspired by the Danish culture, with roots in the suburbs of Copenhagen. Han Kjøbenhavn has been on the official show schedule of the Copenhagen Fashion Week since 2013. instagram Han Kjøbenhavn Fashion Director: Joseph Toronka At A. ROEGE HOVE our aim is to challenge traditions with a modern and artistic approach to original craftsmanship. The unique designs are created each season by founder Amalie Røge Hove. With a master's in textile design from the Royal Danish Academy of fine arts, and years of experience as a knitwear designer for danish brands such as Cecilie Bahnsen and Mark Tan, she created the brand as a way of bringing her own visions of knitwear to life. Defined by an experimenting and intuitive way of working with traditional knitwear techniques, the brand challenges our perception of shape and pushes our expectations of the materials and their behaviour. Every knitted style is created through the vision of bringing life to the material. Different dimensions are created by the bodies that wear them. Like sculptures, they showcase different stories for every style, and as the pieces frame the body the real shape is brought to life by its owner. instagram A. ROEGE HOVE Fashion Director: Joseph Toronka Founded on a desire for textiles and meticulous attention to detail, Louise Lyngh Bjerregaard is a young emerging brand based in Paris, that holds a strong focus on technical sensibility while uniting art, fashion, and subversion. The brand works across seasons blurring the boundaries between ready-to-wear and couture and has been recognized for expanding the definition of knitwear while the appreciation of material and artisanal techniques remains the core of the atelier. Being a close alumni of both Eckhaus Latta and Anne Sofie Madsen, interdisciplinary work with fashion and art is no stranger to the eponymous brand and after graduating in 2017, the private work of Louise Lyngh Bjerregaard has been featured at institutions such as Maison du Danemark (Paris, FR), National Gallery of Denmark (DK) and Overgaden Institute for Contemporary Art (DK). Since 2020 Louise has been a part of the programme "The Young Artistic Elite" established by the Danish Art Foundation. instagram Louise Lyngh Bjerregaard Fashion Director: Joseph Toronka Helmstedt was founded by Emilie Helmstedt in 2018. The collection contains soft sets in silk velvet with piping details. Ruffled collared dresses and hand quilted jackets in heavy silk filled with organic cotton. Furthermore, toweling sets, crispy trousers in silk cotton and more to come. The painter Poul Gernes who experimented with colors throughout his career is a huge inspiration when Helmstedt works with her exquisite color palette. The happiness that colors can bring to everyday life works almost like a mantra to the collections - which is why charmful is one of the first words that comes to mind when you lay eye on the textiles Which Emilie Helmstedt is painting herself.
