SøEdited Team SøEditor-in-Chief: Chris Saint Sims SøFashion Director: Savannah Barthorpe The Balearic Islands' most important music event has been named the national winner of the Contribution to Sustainability award at the renowned Iberian Festival Awards. The eighth edition of the festival will take place on June 12, 13, and 14 at the Mallorca Live venue in Calvià, featuring Massive Attack, Iggy Pop, Suede plus many more all in support of a greener and more sustainable industry. Head Lining MASSIVE ATTACK Massive message, massive influence! A band with a fantastic catalogue of music, but more importantly a massive message politically during the genocide of the Palestine people. Mallorca live hosted a global political event with Massive Attack leading the way in political activism, where we lack in the arts and music industry. Not only an incredible evening with notable collaborators include Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and Shara Nelson joining Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall on stage. Massive Attack presented a light show detailing the harrowing effects of the massacre toward Palestine, along with the corruption of the capitalist world headed but the USA and its political slavery held by Israel. The statistics highlighted by Massive Attack were daunting. Mallorca Live Festival, the most important music and cultural event in the Balearic Islands, has been awarded the national Contribution to Sustainability prize at the renowned Iberian Festival Awards. IGGY POP The legend that is and always will be iggy pop simple blew the festival apart! Expecting a good show from Iggy was an understatement. Full of energy sass and PUNK ROCK power with bucket loads of sex appeal. A once in a life time this legend of rock had the crowd in a frenzy throughout his performance. Both young and old were in a hypnotic state with this Iconic legend still tearing up the stage. SUEDE Their iconic sound and lyrics brought together a distinctive atmosphere to the Mallorca Live Festival. Over the years Mallorca Live has hosted some spectacular acts, and SUEDE were among those acts that will be remembered as the cream. Playing many hits from their ‘Coming Down’ album, taking the crowd back to the hazey 90s London music scene and the height of ‘Crazy’ youth culture at its best, and most deranged! With a simple yet dramatically affective stage set and visuals, my ‘Super Fan’ status was regained, I just love this band and the material they have produced over the years. In collaboration, once again, with its sustainable sponsor, Endesa, the festival carried out two important actions in its last edition: the implementation of a hybrid battery system on Stage 3 - Endesa to reduce its energy consumption and the planting of the last of the 23 trees located in Casa Esment (Mallorcan Esment Foundation’s headquarters) to balance the festival's 2023 carbon footprint. In addition, the festival continued with its successful mobility plan to promote responsibility and commitment to the island, performing more than 22,000 transfers from Palma and Part Forana. The festival site featured more than 60 recycling points and, once again, several cup collection points to ensure the circularity of reusable hard plastic cups thanks to the festival's alliance with the Cleanwave Foundation. And if this ‘Class A’ line up off bands, with a further 80 acts playing through out the festival was not enough; Mallorca Live and its legendary after hours club ROCKED and DISCO’ed into the early hours of the morning, with a lineup of DJs and electronic music artists, including Carlita, Chloé Caillet, and TSHA. Other electronic music acts include Nicola Cruz, Desiree, and local favorites like Discontrol, Senda Fatal, and Melohman B2B Los del Ficus. The Club is one of the main highlights of Mallorca Live, with a cool crowd of all ages, especially those experienced Ravers showing how it is still done. We even had the great pleaser of Iggy Pop grooving late into the night with along with us, dancing with the electric beets and neon lights.
