It's all thanks to Face Yoga with One Skin for Life actually….
By Sara Darling I’ve spent lockdown trying to better myself, after all I have had quite a lot of extra time on my hands. That has included getting better in the kitchen- French country kitchen cookery class via Zoom to make veggie Wellington no less, and countless recipes that I have collected from the supplements for a start. As I wasn’t jetting off to long haul destinations or luxury hotel and spa reviews, I had to amuse myself at home, alone. This could be taken in many ways, but let's keep it clean! I decided I would take up knitting, and embrace all kinds of wellness practices. Knitting is pretty self explanatory, and resulted in a patchwork Granny blanket, but getting in touch with my soulful side was just as much fun too. YouTube is an amazing asset, once you have bypassed the cute dogs and sleeping babies and first dance wedding disasters, it offers a wealth of at-home-feel-good activities. I participated in a twenty one day pilates challenge, perfected my boxing techniques, attempted to learn line dancing (and failed), joined a gong bath and meditation group, and can now Vogue like no-one's watching. All in all, it was my saviour throughout the long and endless days. It’s also a great place to watch skinny American girls make smoothies and “healthy banana bread” if that’s your bag. However, my face was feeling a little left out with all the goodness that was being pumped into my body, and everyone knows an ageing face gives you wrinkles so I thought I needed to look outside the box. I was recommended facial yoga by a good friend (and ex model) so she knows a thing or two about keeping her face fully functioning. Good for the body, good for the mind and face right? I was a tad skeptical, but thought I'd give anything a go to improve my saggy skin…. The session was in real time, and run by my new best friend, Zoom. Hosted by Noele at One Skin For Life, who is a pro at alternative ways of keeping faces youthful; she focuses on parts of the face which often get neglected- like under eyes and chin- who knew you could de-stress and tone-up your vis by a simple massage? Keeping her classes small, Noele is in full view of the participants, and can advise on any tweaks, which makes every session super personal, and you can choose from Face Yoga, Face Aqua or Face Pump for different skin needs. Booking up for Face Yoga, all I had to bring was me and some face oil, and I joined a class which was set to strengthen my facial muscles via a flow of repetitive facial exercises- a bit like a Vinyasa class for your noggin. Noele (who had lovely skin incidentally) said that engaging your facial muscles with resistance training is a great way of relieving tension in the face, aids the stimulation of collagen, improves cell renewal and rids any unwanted toxins- plus it gives you a healthy glow. So pretty much all my desirable boxes were ticked. If only it were that easy buying a house. But I digress….. To be honest, I laughed, a lot during the first session. If you haven’t ever seen yourself pull faces in the mirror, and watch others do the same, you will probably giggle too. But once I had got my smirks under control, I could concentrate on draining the face, and helping manoeuvre all the bad energy and toxins out. You may look silly, but this is in effect what a salon facial is. Noele, who also owns a salon, knows exactly where you can stretch your muscles so they stay supple, and you don’t have to worry about getting it wrong as she is there advising on each move. The forty minutes flew by, and if I didn’t come out any more toned after the first session, my cheeks were certainly well exercised by the giggles. I can’t wait to check out the Face Aqua class (using Cryotherapy, water therapy & lymphatic drainage massage to calm inflammation, puffiness and heat in the skin, leaving the skin cool, revitalised and bursting with oxygen) and the Face Pump which is a motivational class for tired, dull, dry and ageing skin. I am pretty sure my skin will thank me. For more information and special offers, check out https://oneskinforlife.com/
